it makes for enjoyable reading, ushers in all sorts of memories, and serves as a fine ornament and keepsake. It is truly a coffee-table book. Countless area residents have raved about its contents, but supplies are dwindling.
Monmouth Beach: A Century of Memories is a ambitious project from the borough’s Historical Society. And I’m proud to say I’m the author, but I had a lot of help. It’s the first in-depth history of this coastal community. The goal was to capture a glimpse of our remarkable life here at the Jersey Shore. Those who have seen the book tell us that we did well. My thanks to all. The 336-page color publication includes over 100 pages of borough history from the 1600s until today, more than 750 vintage pictures of Monmouth Beach people and places, and some 230 family-sponsored tributes. My personal thanks to all the great borough families who eagerly participated—they paid the way on this deal. Although the county shore community of Monmouth Beach dates back to the 17th century, it got its “official” start in 1906. During my research—including over 10 years of fact gathering and writing—I found that life has always been good in Monmouth Beach. I’m pleased to report that ours is a much envied setting. This history project was an enormous dedication of time and energy in fulfillment. I thank two people who helped to bring the book to reality—borough Mayor Sue Howard and design artist Jean Giordano.
